Frequently Asked Questions

How does the travel visa work?

The B-1/B-2 travel visa is a type of non-immigrant visa issued by the U.S. government for temporary travel purposes. It allows foreign nationals to visit the U.S. for business (B-1) or pleasure/tourism (B-2) for a limited period of time. The travel visa does not allow the visa holder to work or study during their time in the U.S. You can learn more about the requirements of the travel visa in Boundless’ B-1/B-2 guide.

Who needs a travel visa to enter the U.S.?

Only nationals from certain countries are required to obtain B-1/B-2 visas to enter the U.S.

Most Canadian citizens don’t need a travel visa and will automatically be admitted on a B-1 visa or B-2 visa for tourism or business purposes.

Additionally, the Visa Waiver Program (VWP) is a program that allows citizens of certain countries to travel to the U.S. for tourism, business, or while in transit without obtaining a visa. To participate in the Visa Waiver Program, travelers must have a valid Electronic System for Travel Authorization (ESTA) approval prior to entering the U.S. The ESTA is an online system that determines the eligibility of visitors to travel to the U.S. under the Visa Waiver Program.

Visit the State Department website to see if your country is VWP designated. If it is, you can obtain your ESTA through the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) website.

Can Boundless guarantee my travel visa will be approved?

Neither Boundless nor any third party can guarantee that an applicant for a travel visa will be approved. The decision to approve or deny an application is completely up to the U.S. government.

Every application that is completed through Boundless, however, is thoroughly reviewed by our dedicated team before it is submitted to the U.S. government. We also do our best to prepare you for the travel visa interview, with live prep sessions and tips from our team trained by a former consular officer (who has conducted thousands of travel visa interviews in the past).

Overall, there are many factors that may affect an applicant’s odds of approval. To improve your chances of success, take our risk assessment and we’ll make a visa plan tailored to your specific situation.

How much does this all cost?

Boundless can help you assemble and file your B-1/B-2 travel visa application for $195. This flat rate covers your complete application package, interview scheduling, and personalized support from start to finish. Applicants also pay a $185 filing fee directly to the U.S. government. When it comes time to file, we’ll guide you through when and how to pay the government fee.

How does the travel visa interview process work?

After you’ve filed your travel visa application (Form DS-160), the next step in the process is to schedule your visa interview. Wait times for visa appointments vary by country, so answer a few quick questions and we’ll provide you with the average time it takes to get an interview date based on where you’re applying from.

Your visa interview will take place at the U.S. Embassy or consulate where you’ve filed your application. During the interview, a consular officer will ask you questions about your intended travel to the U.S., your life in your home country, and your immigration background. The consular officer may also corroborate information you’ve included in your application and review any supporting documents you’ve brought with you.

If this seems stressful, don’t worry! We’re here to help you schedule the soonest available interview, prepare any supporting documents you might need, and practice your responses so you can attend your interview with confidence.

What happens if I get denied?

It is always at the discretion of the interviewing consular officer to either approve or deny your travel visa. Denials are common during the travel visa process, so if you do get denied, it is still possible to apply again. Boundless offers denial protection –– in the event that your travel visa is denied, we’ll help you re-apply once for free. *Please note you will still have to pay the government fee again, just not the Boundless fee.

How do I get started?

To get started, take our risk assessment, so that we can determine your risk of denial in order to maximize your chance of travel visa approval. The questions asked are from the actual travel visa application –– we’ve worked closely with a former consular officer to identify the right questions to ask to determine your potential risk. Once you’ve answered a few questions, we’ll guide you through the checkout process and get to work on your application.
