Eligibility

To receive a Form I-20, you must meet the following requirements:

  • Acceptance into an SEVP-approved institution: You must be accepted by a Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP)-certified school in the U.S.
  • Proof of financial support: You need to provide documentation showing you can financially support yourself while studying in the U.S. This includes tuition, living expenses, and other costs.
  • Full-time enrollment: You must be enrolled as a full-time student in a program that meets the requirements for the F-1 or M-1 visa status.

Cost

There is no fee specifically for applying for the Form I-20 itself. However, students must pay the SEVIS I-901 fee, which is required for international students to maintain their status in the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS).

  • SEVIS I-901 Fee:
    • F-1 students: $350
    • M-1 students: $350
    • J-1 students: $220

You pay the SEVIS fee online after receiving the Form I-20.


Processing Time
